Patrick McGuinn
Directing
Patrick McGuinn was born in Los Angeles in 1966, the son of well-known 1960s rock musician Roger McGuinn. Gaining an interest in filmmaking from his father's Bolex 16mm camera and his mother's Vivitar 84p, Patrick began making super-8mm films at age nine, this in addition to having life-long interests in music, puppets and theater. He would later perform in punk-rock bands as a teenager. After studying film and television production at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Patrick worked in editorial post production roles on numerous PBS documentaries and independent film projects, and gradually branched out into his own independent low-budget filmmaking. Early works have quirky, humorous themes, whereas later work has explored moody, erotic themes, and embraces diversity in human sexuality. Over time Patrick amassed an array of these short and feature-length works, producing several short films, seven features, and a feature-length documentary, all of which have found distribution, despite their lack of big-name stars and apparent non-commercial appeal. The feature films have been distributed on multi-platform streaming outlets worldwide, viewed at international film festivals, and theatrically released in New York City to very distinctive reviews and reception.
